Self diagnosis
Before any treatment can commence under the NHS, a clinical assessment of the need for orthodontic treatment will be required. In addition, referral and diagnosis must be made before the child’s fourteenth birthday to avoid later complications that may not be set right before free treatment ends on the eighteenth birthday.
The following illustrations may help you identify your condition. As a general guide illustration 1 to 5 show conditions that are unlikely to attract free treatment under the NHS. Illustration 6 to 10 clearly show the need for treatment which is likely to be free for patients under the age of 18. If treatment is unavailable free on the NHS there is little reason why treatment cannot be undertaken privately, and Mr Parker will be happy to discuss this with you. The illustrations are a guide only and your orthodontist will make the final judgment as to the actual condition and the best way forward to treatment.
