Before Orthodontic Treatment |
It is concerned with the assessment and treatment of misaligned teeth and facial irregularities. Orthodontists are specialists who have spent additional years in training.
The correction of irregular tooth positions and jaw patterns is carried out mainly by the use of braces. Crowding or shortage of space may be relieved by removing some teeth to make space for the rest. Teeth are very hard and as bone is softer and continues to be generated all the time it is possible to move teeth through the bone so that spaces can be closed at any age.
Braces are used to apply pressure to the teeth and guide them into their correct position.
Treatment on average takes about 18 months to 2 years to complete in permanent dentition but the early simple treatments can take in the region of 3 months to a year.
